PK-78 Matchbox M16 Halftrack.
Kit number: | PK-78 |
The M-16 Half-track was first developed in 1942 as a mobile anti-aircraft platform using the standard M-3 half-track chassis. This weapon was used with stunning effect to protect armour and infantry units against attacks by the Luftwaffe. The four 0.50 cal. machine-guns were mounted on a Maxson turret with the familiar ammunition canisters fixed to the sides. Despite Allied air superiority towards the closing stages of the war, the Luftwaffe fought bravely against key targets such as the Ludendorff bridge at Remagen during the Rhine crossing where M16 half-tracks proved their worth. A total of 724 M-16 were produced between 1942 and 1943. |
